Meet Our Staff
Pastor Lillian Hines is a Spirit-led leader, a justice-rooted preacher, and the daughter of two faithful servant leaders. A proud native of San Francisco, she said yes to Jesus at seven years old—and she’s been saying yes ever since. With a deep love for the church and a bold commitment to equity, Lillian challenges systems, nurtures souls, and calls communities to grow, heal, and rise. Her preaching is both pastoral and prophetic—marked by honesty, empathy, cultural clarity, and a deep sense of spiritual accountability.
She brings years of cross-cultural ministry experience to the pulpit, having served diverse congregations in New Jersey while also collaborating with local government and advocacy networks to create sustainable, community-centered change. Whether in the sanctuary or in the streets, Pastor Lillian builds bridges between vision and strategy, faith and formation.

A lifelong learner, Pastor Lillian holds a Doctor of Ministry in Pastoral Care and Counseling from New Brunswick Theological Seminary, an M.Div. from Princeton Theological Seminary, and a B.S. in Administration of Justice from Texas Southern University. She is especially passionate about the intersections of theology, leadership development, spiritual care, and the Enneagram—and is always listening for how the Spirit is inviting us into deeper discernment and courageous love.

When she’s not preaching, reading, or equipping others, Dr. Hines is dreaming with God about what’s next—for the church, for communities on the margins, and for leaders called to serve with boldness, clarity, and compassion.

Music has always been a part of my life. After studying piano and musical theory during high school, I began organ lessons while in college, filling in at my home church when our Director of Music was away on vacation during the summer. After several long-term subbing positions, I became full-time Director of Music at Ridgeview Presbyterian Church in West Orange, a position I held for almost 19 years before coming to United Reformed Church in Clifton where my tenure dates back to 2007. I enjoy playing and arranging music for organ, piano, voice and various instruments. I am grateful to United Reformed for giving me the opportunity to express my passion for music while at the same time serving the Lord God Creator of us all.
